Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician

Position Summary:

Responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, calibration, and maintenance off instrumentation, SCADA, control systems, and electrical equipment throughout the midstream plant. This role ensures safe, reliable operations and supports system integrity in the field working with pumps, compressors, metering stations, and analyzers.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

- Install, configure, test, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot instrument, transmitters, sensors, valves, and control systems.

- Service SCADA, PLC, RTU, VFD, MCC, and other critical instrumentation, including safety shutdown systems and gas detection analyzers.

- Interpret and work from P&ID diagrams, electrical schematics, as-builts, and technical specifications.

- Perform preventive maintenance inspections, repairs, and documentation in the CMMS or equivalent system.

- Collaborate in emergency response efforts involving system malfunctions, leaks, or safety events.

- Drive company vehicle to various field locations, performing equipment checks and servicing remote stations.

- Assist with part requisitions, equipment ordering, and maintenance reporting.

 

Qualifications:

Required:

- High school diploma or equivalent; technical schooling, trade certificates, or equivalent experience preferred (associates/technical degree is a plus)

- 3+ years of experience in instrumentation, electrical, or controls work ideally midstream/natural gas or related field.

- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

- Familiarity with electrical concepts, PLC logic, SCADA operations, control loops, and safety systems.

- Proficient in reach schematics, P&IDs, and using troubleshooting tools.

- Strong computer skills, including use of CMMS and basic diagnostic software.

Physical Demands

- Heavy Work: capability to lift, push, pull, and maneuver up to 50 lbs. regularly; occasionally heavier with assistance.

- Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and working in confined spaces or at heights.

- Manual dexterity is needed for fine adjustments and component manipulation.

- Visual acuity for close and far-distance work, including depth perception and color discrimination.

 

Work Environment

- Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments – heat, cold, humidity, dust, vibration, and noise.

- Regular routine and PM tasks; frequent handling of energized equipment and moving parts.

- Occasional on-call rotations or emergency response requirements.

- Company vehicles provided regular travel between plant and field sites, sometimes over rough terrain.

- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required at all times in designated areas.
